Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 15 September 2026

These terms apply to your use of Meter Max, the mobile app developed and operated by Archevot Technologies Ltd, a private company limited by shares registered in England and Wales under company number 17239931, registered office 20 Wenlock Road, London, England, N1 7GU ("we", "us"). By setting up your books in the app you agree to them. Please also read the Privacy Policy.

1. Who the App Is For

Meter Max is for self-employed individuals aged 18 or over who run a driving business in the UK: private hire and minicab, taxi, courier and delivery, and van drivers. It is not designed for limited companies, partnerships or other kinds of business.

2. Your Licence to Use the App

We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, for your own driving business. You must not copy, resell or modify the app, or try to access its source code or the sign-in service other than as the app normally does, except where the law allows.

3. Not Tax or Financial Advice

The app works out figures from the records you enter and from published tax rates and rules. Its tax estimates, including what to set aside, are estimates. They depend on the accuracy of your records and do not cover every personal circumstance; the app tells you where it does not.

The app is not a substitute for advice from a qualified accountant or tax adviser. You are responsible for checking your figures and for everything you send to HMRC. Where HMRC's own calculation differs from the app's estimate, HMRC's calculation is what you owe.

4. Your Records

  • You are responsible for recording your income and expenses accurately and completely, and for keeping the records HMRC requires for as long as it requires them.
  • Your records are stored only on your phone. We cannot recover them if your phone is lost, reset or the app is removed. Use the app's backup regularly.
  • Keep your phone, app lock and authenticator app secure. Anyone who can unlock the app on your phone, and has a code from your authenticator app, can send information to HMRC in your name. If you lose access to your authenticator app, you can remove it in Settings after unlocking with your phone's own screen lock.
  • Choices the app asks you to make, such as your accounting basis, VAT scheme, and whether a vehicle is claimed at mileage rates or on actual costs, are yours.

5. Sending to HMRC

  • When you connect the app to HMRC you authorise it to send the information you choose, on your behalf. Declarations you accept before sending are your own declarations to HMRC.
  • A return or update counts as sent only when the app shows HMRC's confirmation. If HMRC's systems or your connection are unavailable, the app cannot send until they are back.
  • Meeting HMRC's deadlines, and paying any tax, penalties and interest, remains your responsibility.
  • You can also record returns filed another way; the app then relies on what you tell it.

6. Pensions

The app's pension information and planner are general guidance, not regulated financial advice. The app never makes payments: "Pay now" opens your pension provider's own website, and any payment is between you and the provider, under its terms. Speak to a regulated financial adviser for advice on your circumstances.

7. Other Services

The app relies on services we do not control, including HMRC's systems, Google Play and Android, Cloudflare, and websites you open from the app. We are not responsible for their availability or content.

8. Subscription, Free Trial and Cancelling

  • Plans. Meter Max is a paid app, sold as a monthly or yearly subscription through Google Play. The price, billing period and any free trial are shown in the app and on Google Play before you buy.
  • Free trial. New subscribers may get a free trial, once per Google account. When the trial ends, the subscription starts and Google Play charges the plan's price unless you cancel before the trial ends.
  • Renewal. The subscription renews automatically at the end of each month or year, at the price then shown, until you cancel. Google Play tells you before any price change.
  • Cancel any time. Cancel in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions, or from Settings → Subscription in the app. The subscription then runs to the end of the period already paid for and is not renewed. Uninstalling the app does not cancel it.
  • Refunds. Payments and refunds are handled by Google Play under its own terms. This does not affect your legal rights as a consumer.
  • Without a subscription. Your records remain yours: you can still open the app to view them, back them up and export them. Adding or changing entries and sending to HMRC need an active subscription or trial.

9. Updates and Availability

We update the app to reflect changes in tax rules, HMRC's services and the app itself. Keep the app updated: an older version may not have the current tax year's rates or may no longer be accepted by HMRC. We may change or withdraw features, but will not do so in a way that stops you exporting your records.

10. Our Responsibility to You

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law does not allow us to limit. If you use the app as a consumer, you also have legal rights for digital content that is faulty, and these terms do not affect them.

Subject to that, we are not responsible for:

  • loss caused by records that are inaccurate or incomplete, or by choices you make in the app;
  • tax, penalties, interest or missed deadlines, including where HMRC's systems or your connection were unavailable;
  • decisions you make based on estimates;
  • loss of data on your device that a backup would have prevented;
  • business losses such as lost profit, earnings or opportunity.

Where we are responsible, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the 12 months before the claim, or £100 if that is greater.

11. Ending Use

You can stop using the app at any time: cancel your subscription in Google Play, disconnect from HMRC in Settings and uninstall it. We may stop the HMRC connection for anyone misusing the app or the sign-in service.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms, for example when the law or the app changes. We will revise the date at the top and show material changes in the app. Continuing to use the app after that means you accept the updated terms.

13. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and disputes go to the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
